Austin is Wrong, LBK is Great and Texas Tech Making It Rain is a Good Thing

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have become the center of attention for the college athletics universe since December of 2024. The Red Raiders fueled by oil money have been making it rain in all sports and it has been awesome to watch. This is how college athletics and recruiting work in the modern era; there is no longer bag men running loose in SEC country paying kids under the table, everyone can pay and sorry to SEC country someone else is here to outbid you.

To be frank, I find it rather badass to just sit here and drop bags SEC schools cannot compete with. Watching their fanbases whine and complain has been comical and I have found a lot of entertainment in watching the crashouts. “We lost a recruit to Texas Tech?” yeah buddy, get your bag up!

As someone who is not a Texas Tech fan but support another Big 12 program, I love this. I am tired of the SEC narrative and the SEC homers online and in the media. It has been beautiful to watch Texas Tech stick it to them; SEC fans and their media space has become insufferable and I really enjoy watching their agony. I want to see someone else beat them at their own game.

On a semi related topic, can the Lubbock slander slow down? I can assure you, there are far worse places in Texas, looking at you Waco. My fellow contributor Austin (@deviousduck_ on X) had a tweet that made some noise rather recently regarding Lubbock:

Look Austin, I have looked into going to Lubbock to watch my team play. I am rather upset we do not play a football or men’s basketball game there because I wanted to experience watching a game there. Let’s not act like “Eugene” is a premier tourist destination either. I am going to either location to WATCH BALL. I am a true sports fan, I do not need the allure of a vacation destination to go somewhere. I consider Austin a friend but this is not it, this all stems from Texas Tech having money and its just amusing.

Never in my life have I heard of someone vacationing anywhere near Eugene or even trying to start a family there.

Thank God for Nike.

I get as an Oregon fan you feel as if you are one of the big boys, an OG if you will, but let’s not act like Oregon is not doing the same thing. To put it in simple terms, Oregon and Lubbock are in the same boat here, dropping bags to get kids. That is recruiting in 2025, everyone can pay players, not just a select few. It’s okay if Nike money comes but some good ole fashioned oil money goes to Texas Tech and now it becomes a problem?

This was not something I had planned to write, but my fellow contributor Austin spouting off on some nonsense got me in a mood to write. I have long enjoyed this trend, watching someone play the SEC’s game has made me happy. Most people that support non-SEC programs would tell you they loathe the SEC and everything they stand for. Do not hate a program playing their own game and pissing their fans off. Texas Tech dropping bags is good for college athletics and I hope more schools follow in their footsteps. Be pimps, bank roll the recruiting scene. Let’s see some new programs take the spotlight and push out the SEC and other elitist programs.
