Play the Fight Song: Week 2 CFB Storylines

Week 2 is officially over. And what a week it was. Never again do I want to hear from the masses that it is going to be a “boring” slate of games. Yesterday brought more games than we will get on a single day for the entire season. Let that sink in. Let’s review some key takeaways.

The Bulls wrestle the Gators.

USF surprises again. It is not a fluke either. This team is the real deal. Take a look at their roster. It is littered with 3 and 4 star players. They recruit well nationally but they recruit great in south Florida. While Florida was spitting the game away, USF stayed disciplined and protected the football. That’s how you win a football game against a more talented roster. My feeling is if USF was in the Big12, they could beat everyone outside of maybe Utah. The Bulls are for real.

John Mateer Dazzles

Do not let the Venmo scandal get in the way of how great of a football player a John Mateer is. He absolutely shined last night. Some of those throws were jaw dropping. Rolling out and flicking his wrist like he’s throwing a nerf ball. More impressive though is his ability and fearlessness to run. It’s obvious that the coaching staff has a lot of confidence in him. Those were designed QB runs and he came through. Heisman front runner right now.

Oregon Drops their Nuts on Oklahoma State

Oregon laid the hammer down on a chatty Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys to a tune of 69-3. 14 of those points were back to back pick sixes just to rub it in. Oregon is firing on all cylinders and could prove to be the best team in the country. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State and Mike Gundy has lost their fastball. The Cowboys need a complete overhaul of the program right now.
