Oklahoma Sooners fans have turned the internet into a wild celebration of “Shinsanity” this week, and it’s all thanks to quarterback John Mateer and his hand surgeon, Dr. Steven Shin. When Mateer, an early Heisman contender, broke a bone in his throwing hand during OU’s win over Auburn, Sooner Nation held its breath. Worried about the future and the success of the surgery. Sooner fans definitely made their voices known about the return of John Mateer and hoping it becomes a quick one, Enter Dr. Shin, a world-class hand surgeon at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, who performed a successful surgery on September 24, 2025, and instantly became a folk hero in Norman and honestly College Football all together.

These three memes that I shared are just a small examples of the, I shit you not, thousands of pictures and edits I’ve seen of Dr. Stephen Shin.
The love for Shin reached such heights that Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond issued an official commendation, declaring Shin the savior of Mateer’s season.
Mateer himself fueled the fire, posting on X: “Thank God for a successful procedure. Dr. Shin is the GOAT. BOOMER SOONER!!”
Fans responded with gems like “Dr. Shin walking into the operating room like a CHAMPION” alongside hilarious images of him as a superhero. The craze even caught the attention of OU’s coaching staff, with defensive coach Todd Bates joining in on the meme fun. Oh, almost forgot, sooner fans started going to Google to leave reviews for Dr. Shin. Borderline insane behavior from OU fans, but I’m absolutely here for it.
