Vergil Ortiz Jr. tightened his grip as ESPN’s No. 1-ranked junior middleweight with a two-round destruction of Erickson Lubin in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday night.
Lubin only managed to land three punches the entire fight. The thorough beating sent him out of ESPN’s top 10 junior middleweights and he is replaced at No. 10 by Brandon Adams.
Ortiz holds firm at No. 1 and is now set for a collision course with Jaron “Boots” Ennis in a highly anticipated showdown that will likely take place in early 2026.
ESPN’s divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.
Fighters who haven’t competed in the past 12 months — and don’t have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.

Although Lubin was expected to give Ortiz a challenge, the fight was one-sided. From the outset, Ortiz backed Lubin into the ropes behind a solid jab and body work. Lubin’s only escape plan aside was covering up and hoping for the best. The strategy didn’t last long as a pair of short right hands crashed through Lubin’s guard in Round 2 and left him dazed. Ortiz followed up with a violent barrage of left hooks, as the ropes were the only thing keeping Lubin upright. The referee mercifully ended the fight at the 1:30 mark.
